  • volkswagen sweden has taken the unusual step of "fixing" the abbey road album cover so the vw beetle in the background is parked properly. (yes, it's a new photo, not really a photoshop. we know.)
  • ok, it's for laughs, but it's also to promote the automaker's park assist technology.
  • you can order a copy (with no album included) of the "reparked edition," which vw sweden will ship worldwide.

you know what you've probably never noticed in the background on the beatles' iconic abbey road album cover? the white volkswagen beetle. volkswagen of sweden is hoping to change that and has taken the extreme measure of removing the band from the photo altogether.

the reason: the beetle was untidily parked up on a curb in the original photo.

the changed image is for a good cause: to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the abbey road album and to raise money for a children's charity in sweden. it's also to promote park assist technology on new volkswagens.

volkswagen sweden has re-created the image with a few key modifications. most importantly, john, paul, george, and ringo are nowhere to be found. the beetle has been repositioned so that it's fully parked on the street, rather than partially on the curb. and the other cars on the street are modern, rather than the '60s-era london cabs and other unidentifiable vehicles in the background of the original.

you can download the new, beatles-less photo as a pdf, or, for a limited time, vw sweden will send you one for a donation of $25. they ship worldwide.
