  • toyota racing development tried to make the 2020 toyota camry into a real sports sedan, and the resulting car is selling fast.
  • the camry trd starts at $32,125, and toyota is producing only 6000 of them for each model year.
  • it's powered by a 301-hp 3.5-liter v-6 and is fitted with added aero, black trd wheels, a rear wing, and a sport exhaust system.

the 2020 toyota camry trd looks hot, sounds hot, and is selling hot, too. it might be the best-looking camry out there, but it's not even the most expensive. the v-6–powered xse costs about $4000 more than a trd, and it has the same engine, too. no wonder toyota says dealers are having a hard time keeping trds on the lots.

toyota plans to produce only 6000 camry trds for each model year, and individual dealers will only get around four to five of them each year. toyota told c/d that trds are selling twice as quickly as the four-cylinder camry se, of which 100,000 are sold each year. for comparison, in total toyota sold 336,978 camrys in 2019.

if customers want a camry that's less bland and offers more oomph, they can opt for a 301-hp 3.5-liter v-6 in the xle and xse trims. toyota says that about 6 percent of camrys sold are v-6 powered, and the extra spicy camry trd, also powered by the 3.5-liter, makes up a third of those sales.

with added aero, black trd wheels, a sport exhaust system, and a wing out back, the camry trd makes the boring family sedan look not so boring after all. throw in some eye-grabbing red paint, and you've got yourself a winner, but those red trds are the ones that are the hardest to find. from our ann arbor, michigan, headquarters, the closest supersonic red camry trds for sale are hundreds of miles away in appleton, wisconsin, and pittsburgh, pennsylvania. since dealers only get a handful each year, no wonder they're hard to find.

anyone interested in a 2020 toyota camry trd had better act fast, in other words. the trd starts at $32,125, and we think that just by looking like an outrageous camry, it helps elevate how good the toyota family sedan really is. we kind of get why they're selling.
