- tomica strikes an exclusive deal with walmart to relaunch die-cast toy cars in the united states.
- an initial lineup of six models will be available only at brick-and-mortar walmart locations.
- more models are coming and will represent a mix of familiar u.s.-market vehicles and japanese-market oddities.
japanese collectible toy maker tomica will be relaunching sales in the united states this month through an exclusive deal with walmart. according to a report from autoblog yesterday, there will be six vehicles offered in the initial rollout and include the nissan gt-r, the subaru brz, the toyota prius, and the mazda cx-5.
a suzuki swift and an isuzu truck are also offered but may be unfamiliar to american shoppers since they are modeled from vehicles that are not sold on our shores. a second run will come later and will include the mitsubishi outlander, the lexus rc-f, the toyota c-hr, the subaru impreza, and the nissan note.
youtube toy reviewer keith's toy box received a set of the initial lineup for review and an unboxing video shows that each one comes with opening doors and front and rear suspension. these features set tomica die-cast cars apart from similarly-sized rivals such as matchbox and hot wheels.
unfortunately, the cars will be sold in stores only, which means collectors will need to venture to their local walmart stores hoping for inventory. similar tomica models are available online, though, but cost more than the $4.99 retail price they'll be sold for at walmart.
