the 2020 ford mustang shelby gt500 will offer 760 horsepower for a starting price of $73,995. that includes a $2600 gas-guzzler tax, and it makes this supercharged v-8 mustang $12,460 more expensive than the shelby gt350. the base price is just the start, though: with its big-hitter carbon fiber track package added, the gt500 tops $90,000, making it the most expensive factory street-legal mustang ever made.
key options include a handling package for $1500 (adjustable strut top mounts, removable splitter end plates, and a gurney flap) and a technology package (upgraded audio system, blind-spot warning, rain-sensing wipers, navigation, and puddle lamps that project a cobra logo) for $3000. the big kahuna is the carbon fiber track package, which costs a whopping $18,500 and includes carbon-fiber wheels wearing michelin pilot sport cup 2 track tires, an adjustable carbon-fiber wing, a rear-seat delete, and dive planes up front. all gt500 mustangs have a supercharged 5.2-liter v-8 engine making 760 horsepower and 625-lb-ft of torque mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
eleven different colors will be on offer, including the awesome grabber lime, with a choice of side stripes and over-the-top stripes in black, white, or blue. a black roof is also available. the standard seats are leather with microsuede trim and are power adjustable, while the optional manual-adjustable recaro seats (standard on the carbon fiber track package) are fully trimmed in leather; both seat options only come in black. another standalone option is a carbon-fiber instrument panel, which also is included in that track package.
the gt500's closest competitor, the chevrolet camaro zl1, starts at $64,695 but offers just 650 horsepower from its supercharged v-8. the dodge challenger srt hellcat redeye, which has 797 horsepower, starts at $73,440.
ford isn't sharing stand-alone option pricing for the gt500 yet, but even with just the tech and carbon fiber track packages added, this mustang tops $95,000. with a few other extras added, it could potentially crest the six-figure mark. a full online configurator will be coming soon, says ford, ahead of the car going on sale this fall.
