we named the ram 1500 to our 10best list this year, and buyers seem to agree that it's a great truck. the ram pickup outsold the chevy silverado in 2019, upsetting the traditional truck-sales finishing order—and not by a small margin. ram sold a total of 633,694 trucks in 2019, a whopping 58,094 units ahead of the chevy silverado's 575,600 units (all of these numbers include both light- and heavy-duty trucks).

compared to last year, these numbers represent an 18 percent increase for the ram truck lineup, and a 2 percent decrease for the silverado lineup. chevy's heavy-duty trucks fell 8 percent and the light-duty silverado fell 1 percent overall; ram, meanwhile does not break out sales numbers for light- and heavy-duty trucks. notably, both companies rolled out redesigned versions of both their light- and heavy-duty trucks recently.

neither of these trucks will come close to beating the ford f-series; while ford has yet to release year-end sales numbers, its truck had already racked up 662,574 sales through the third quarter, so we can presume it will extend its lead by a wide margin once ford announces fourth-quarter and year-end numbers.

adding in sales numbers for the chevy silverado's mechanical twin, the gmc sierra, tells a slightly different story. its sales were up this year to 232,323 units; adding that total to the silverado's means that general motors sold a total of 807,923 trucks.
