  • kia has released more information and photos about the redesigned sorento.
  • the car you see here is the europe-spec model, but it won't change much for the u.s.
  • the new sorento goes on sale in europe in the third quarter of 2020 and should arrive in america by the end of the year.

kia has revealed a whole lot more about its new 2021 sorento mid-size suv, including plenty of photos of its exterior and interior and more details about its powertrains and available equipment. the sorento you see here is the europe-spec model, but we expect to hear more about its arrival in the u.s. later in 2020.

the new sorento's appearance isn't likely to change much for the u.s. market, and neither are its interior furnishings—and that's a good thing, given how stylish and upscale the new model looks inside and out. available tech features include a 10.3-inch central touchscreen infotainment display, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a wide array of driver-assistance features, and a drive mode selector for different types of terrain such as mud, snow, and sand. kia says that both five- and seven-passenger versions will be available, and the third row of seats may end up being standard equipment in the u.s. market like it is on the current sorento.

of the sorento's new powertrains we detailed before, european customers will get the 227-hp hybrid system and a 2.2-liter turbo-diesel. the hybrid is a sure bet for the u.s. market, as is the turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four with 277 horsepower that was previously announced for global markets. we also expect the sorento's base engine to be a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. front-wheel drive will be standard and all-wheel drive will be optional. a plug-in-hybrid model is slated to appear later.

kia's american arm has yet to confirm anything about the 2021 sorento for our market, but we hope to hear more news soon. it is slated to go on sale in europe in the third quarter of this year, which means it will likely hit u.s. dealerships by the end of the year.
