fresh off some minor controversies regarding the rights of owners to sell their ford gts before the expiration of the two-year limit imposed by the purchase agreements, ford performance brought a beautiful blue 2018 gt to the midwest automotive media association spring rally at road america in elkhart lake, wisc.

the spring rally is an annual gathering where automakers bring their latest vehicles en masse and journalists drive them on the street, track and off-road (and also remember to count their blessings that they have such a cool job).

unfortunately, that job isn't so cool that we got to drive the gt; something about ford not wanting anyone not employed by ford or without significant track experience to break the gt or, you know, bundle it into a wall and die or whatever. instead, ford brought along its own professional driver to give us a taste of what the gt can do.

as someone prone to motion sickness, i was terrified of my turn in the passenger seat. i didn't want to puke all over the interior, and the pr rep's promise of sending video of the potential aftermath to jalopnik didn't make me feel better.

after wedging myself in — the cabin isn't spacious to begin with, and i was wearing a racing helmet — i gulped a couple of deep breaths and we took off. i didn't throw up, but i did spend the whole lap laughing. part of that laughter was joy and amazement because the gt is just that good, and part of it was another reminder that whatever skills i think i have behind the wheel, there are far better drivers out there.

check out the photos above, and stay tuned for the video coming soon.
