- after a dominant career, the integra retired from racing in 2002.
- to get the car racing again, peter cunningham repurchased the #42 car and restored it himself.
- the integra type r raced in the vintage weathertech international challenge this summer at road america in wisconsin.
between 1997 and 2002, the realtime racing acura integra type r notched 23 total wins and also won five of six speed touring car championships and four manufacturer's championships. but in 2002, the integra retired from racing.
now, almost 17 years later, scca hall of famer peter cunningham repurchased the no. 42 integra and completed a full restoration of the fwd racer. during the restoration, the car was stripped to bare metal, some sheetmetal was replaced, and a roll cage, new springs, and new shocks were installed.
this summer, cunningham took his 9000-rpm screamer back to the track at road america in wisconsin for the vintage weathertech international challenge. here, he raced the integra type r against other cars in his class such as porsche 911s, 914/6s, and datsun 240zs.
this integra type r's four-cylinder is like music to our ears when it spins up to 9000 rpm, and here's hoping that honda would gift us with more cars with the red badge.
