Jeep Said to Be Building a Compact Competitor for Suzukis Jimny

jeep will be building an ultracompact utility vehicle to slot under its renegade cuv (that's the renegade pictured above) for 2022, according to a report from u.k. publication auto express that was also cited by jalopnik.

the car will rival suzuki's popular jimny micro off-roader in europe, although it's not yet clear whether it will be sold stateside.

auto express spoke with marco pigozzi, jeep's head of brand marketing in europe, who told them the new vehicle will offer a combination of practicality and off-road-worthiness.

"the car will be able to be used as a bad-ass jeep, but it has also been designed to be used every day," pigozzi told auto express.

according to the marketing head, the car will measure around 13 feet long—slightly longer than the jimny, but still shorter than the renegade. auto express predicts the vehicle, which has yet to be named, will have some sort of electrification incorporated into its powertrain.

"we have the capability to deliver the electrification we need," pigozzi added.

when reached by road & track for confirmation on the report and u.s. availability, a jeep representative said the company does not comment on future product plans.
