aston martin, known for making james bond's sports cars, has revealed its first suv, the dbx, and launched an online configurator for it. so, as we tend to do immediately when we hear that one is up and running, we hopped over to the dbx configurator and spec'd a big aston of our own. here's what we came up with:

fair warning: we got a bit carried away selecting some rather pricey options we don't really need, sending our tall aston well over its $192,086 base price for the u.s. also, aston martin supplied prices for the options we chose, but the configurator doesn't list them and refers consumers to a local dealer for those prices.
at launch, the dbx comes standard with a mercedes-amg–sourced twin-turbo 4.0-liter v-8 paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. aston claims a zero-to-60-mph time of 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 181 mph. it's likely that both hybrid and electric powertrains will be offered down the road, but for now, we'll gladly take the v-8.

our first tick on the configurator was the $3400 pet package. we have a dog-friendly office, and we want to do our part to make sure they're comfortable (we'd also want to keep a $200,000-plus suv clean after their day full of zoomies at the dog park). the pet package includes a dog partition, portable washer, rear bumper protector, and dog accessory holder. since our headquarters is in michigan, we also opted for the interior protect package, which includes all-weather floor and trunk mats and a rear seat protector.
we also want our dbx to be comfortable. the $3100 indulgence package adds 16-way power front seats with memory, plus heated and cooled front and rear seats. in addition, we chose a power tailgate with gesture control and park assist, which require the $2200 convenience package.
the aston martin dbx has 30 exterior colors to choose from in its am palette, including the vibrant lime essence and yellow tang. there are also 24 colors in the separate q palette, including the bright-purple royal indigo and the self-explanatory kermit green. we went with an elegant brown from the am palette: kopi bronze—a $2600 option. and to accentuate our tasteful exterior color choice, we opted for the 22-inch ribbon satin black and bronze diamond-turned wheels and vivid orange brake calipers, which together add up to $8400. out back, we selected the $800 smoked taillights and the sport exhaust system, because we like to be loud. inside, we chose a nice warm brown leather interior in sahara tan with $1100 californian poppy orange contrast stitching to match our exterior spec.
all in all, our 2020 aston martin came to $214,586. we can't wait to get behind the wheel of the big aston because we've been told that prototypes have already been lapping the nürburgring at paces that could beat the green hell's suv lap record.
