Hey Ford, the Bronco Sasquatch Package Needs a Manual, and This Petition Proves It

  • fans of the 2021 ford bronco are signing a petition to tell ford to offer the seven-speed manual transmission with the off-road-ready sasquatch package and the more powerful 2.7-liter ecoboost v-6 engine.
  • mike levine, ford's head of north american communications, tweeted on july 15 that ford is "open to feedback" on its decision not to offer the manual on the sasquatch broncos.
  • you can sign the petition here.

everything about the new 2021 ford bronco is damn near perfect: you can get 35-inch tires from the factory and a seven-speed manual transmission with a low crawler gear, and the doors and roof come off. plus there's this thing called the sasquatch package, which, including the beefy 35-inch rubber, adds an electronic transfer case, front and rear locking axles, a 1.2-inch lift, larger fender flares (to fit the big tires), and heavy-duty bilstein shock absorbers. however, there's a reason why we said the new bronco is "near perfect": you can't get the diy gearbox with the sasquatch package or the more powerful 2.7-liter engine. c'mon, ford.

but apparently there's still hope. in a reply to a question on twitter about whether or not the bigfoot-inspired off-road package can be had with the manual transmission, mike levine, ford's head of north american communications, replied in the negative, but he did say that ford is "open to feedback for those that feel otherwise." it goes without saying that everyone at car and driver feels strongly otherwise, and thankfully, so do more than 5000 people who have signed a petition to tell ford to offer the manual gearbox on all 2021 broncos. it would make perfect sense to offer the row-it-yourself gearbox on an enthusiast package.

ford uses a seven-speed getrag manual in the bronco, but it's only available with the 2.3-liter ecoboost inline-four that's projected to make 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. the manual comes standard on all broncos equipped with the 2.3-liter, although a 10-speed automatic and 310-hp 2.7-liter ecoboost v-6 are both optional. the ongoing petition is also asking ford to offer the manual with the more powerful 2.7-liter engine as well, and we couldn't agree more. jeep only offers a six-speed manual on wranglers equipped with the base 3.6-liter v-6, though a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four and 3.0-liter v-6 diesel are both optional and only available with an eight-speed automatic transmission. don’t you want to be better than jeep, ford?

enthusiasts assemble, and let's bring this petition and our pleas for 35-inch tires and manual transmissions to ford's attention. if we band together, we can #savethemanuals.
