it fits right in; large upright octagonal grille and slashlike led headlight design are hallmarks of the audi family

defining characteristics: two electric motors and an 82-kilowatt-hour battery pack that drives around 280 miles of range; all-wheel drive standard (or ... will be?)

ridiculous features: the concept looks ready to go, but there's no word on whether the cabin's two-tone ombre design and recycled interior materials will make it to production.

chance of being mass-produced: high. audi said the production version will be launched at the end of 2020.

audi teased its latest electric concept ahead of its reveal at the 2019 geneva international motor show and during its unveiling confirmed that the model's concept status will be short-lived. the production version of the q4 e-tron concept will be launched at the end of 2020.

but wait: doesn't audi already have an all-electric suv in the new e-tron? yes, but as suvs continue to cannibalize car sales, it appears that ample consumer appetite means there's room for lots of them in automakers' lineups.

the q4 e-tron is an electric compact suv that seats four and slots below the e-tron in size. the q4 seats four passengers and is around 181 inches long; the e-tron seats five and measures 193 inches in length. power comes from two electric motors and an 82-kilowatt-hour battery pack that audi estimates should be good for around 280 miles of range — significantly more than the 200 miles of estimated range for the e-tron.

inside, warm and dark colors meet in a two-tone color scheme highlighted by darker shades on the lower section, and whites and beiges on the top half of the cabin. audi noted sustainability was important when designing the car, so the floor is made of recycled materials and instead of metal trim through the cabin, there's a "high-quality multilayer paint finish," the brand said in a statement.

this will not be the last you see of the q4 e-tron. audi says the concept's modular electrification platform will be integrated into a host of new electric vehicles from audi and parent volkswagen in various classes. the q4 e-tron is the latest entry in vw's plans to launch dozens of electric vehicles by 2025.
