- the gv80 is the first suv from the genesis luxury brand, and images of it have leaked out ahead of its debut.
- the styling looks similar to the gv80 concept, and this model will compete with the bmw x5, mercedes-benz gle, and audi q7.
- expect the gv80 to make its official debut early in 2020, and go on sale a few months after that.
hyundai's genesis luxury brand will finally release its suv soon, but a few leaked images from allcarnews on instagram have spoiled the surprise. although the pictures themselves are grainy, we can tell that the production gv80 looks close to the earlier gv80 concept car that previewed this mid-size luxury suv.
the large pentagonal grille seen on the gv80 looks to be a new signature for genesis, as we saw it on the refreshed g90 sedan and in spy photos of the upcoming second-generation g80 sedan. slim headlights and an imposing, squared-off hood give the car plenty of presence, and from what we can see of the taillights the rear-end styling looks reminiscent of the bentley bentayga.
interior images show a plush-looking cabin with quilted leather upholstery, a huge display screen mounted on the center of the dashboard, and two knobs on the center console that we assume are a rotary gear shifter and a control knob for the infotainment system.
we suspect that the gv80 will use a turbocharged v-6 engine and possibly a turbocharged four-cylinder as its base engine, with a plug-in hybrid model set to join the lineup at some point. it will use a rear-wheel-drive platform shared with the g80, which is slated to get a redesign next year as well.
this sneak peek gives us our best glimpse of the gv80 yet, but we'll still have to wait for the official reveal to get all the details. expect to hear more over the next few months as genesis prepares to launch its first suv.
