ferrari has unveiled its latest one-off customer car, and it's this svelte, deep-red omologato. it's lovely, of course, and, from what we are assured, fast. it has lapped fiorano and done well there, though we didn't get any lap times.

it is the 10th front-engined v-12 one-off ferrari has delivered since the 2009 p540 superfast aperta. it was made for "a discerning european client," ferrari said, without naming him or her. ferrari says the omologato is just the latest in its "line of unique coachbuilt one-off models . . . a vibrant evocation of the values that define ferrari in relation to gt racing; a car that is equally at ease on the road as it is hitting an apex on the track."

the car sits on an 812 superfast, a fine v-12–powered place to start. from there, designers, led by flavio manzoni, changed everything. the only elements remaining from the 812 are the headlights and the windshield, ferrari said.

"the trickiest aspect was striking the ideal balance between expressiveness and restraint," ferrari said. “the omologata had to ooze street presence whilst maintaining a very pure formal language.”

the interior is likewise redone to client specifications, with electric blue seats finished in a combination of leather and jeans aunde fabric. the rest of the interior is black. there is crackled paint finish on the metal dials as you might find on a real race car from the ‘50s and ‘60s.

but alas, it will go to only that one “discerning european client,” who, again, is neither you nor me. how do you say "sigh*" in italian?
