  • a spokesperson for fca would not confirm the report.

the spread of coronavirus forced automotive production across the country to come to a standstill, and as a result, new vehicles intended to be debuted or released in the coming months have been delayed. in a webinar yesterday, according to automotive news, fiat chrysler told suppliers that it would be delaying production of the all new 2021 jeep grand wagoneer and grand cherokee by three months. fca estimates that both vehicles will reach the market in 2021.

in a statement to c/d, a spokesperson for fca wouldn't confirm the report besides saying that the automaker expects "some period of delay to our programs" as a result of the spread of covid-19.

the 2021 grand wagoneer will be a reintroduction of the suv that went out of production back in the early 1990s, and with three rows, it will compete with the likes of the ford expedition and the chevy tahoe. the jeep grand cherokee is going to be receiving a complete overhaul for 2021 after becoming one of the older vehicles in jeep's lineup.

news of the delays come as fca, among other automakers, has begun examining ways to resume production across north america. in the webinar, the manufacturer said that it would progressively restart production at factories in the u.s. and canada on may 4 and may 18.
