  • earlier this year, dodge and srt boss tim kuniskis said that the company's goal was to have 500 million horsepower on american roads by the end of 2019.
  • thanks to dodge's $10-per-horsepower cash allowance, they have reached that goal two months early.
  • the company is planning a social media event to thank its loyal horsepower-crazed fans.

it's no question whether or not dodge–fiat chrysler's bad-boy brand–is obsessed with horsepower. earlier this year, tim kuniskis, head of passenger cars for dodge, said the company's goal is to have half a billion horsepower on u.s. roads before the end of the year to satisfy the horsepower hunger that their fans possess.

dodge has achieved that goal two months early. credit for reaching the milestone goes to the dodge power dollars program, which is a $10-per-horsepower cash allowance that is available on all challenger, charger, and durango models. kuniskis said that we are living in the “golden age of muscle cars”, but you'll need to act fast if you want to get in on the fun. dodge says the power dollars program will end on january 2, 2020.

dodge engineers just keep slapping bigger superchargers on the company's legendary v-8 engines to keep pumping out larger horsepower numbers. so far, the most powerful dodge in recent years is the 840-hp demon, and we could see a redeye or demon-possessed jeep cherokee pretty soon. dodge's horsepower craze is only continuing to intensify.

according to dodge, the challenger had a record third quarter in 2019, while the charger snagged its highest sales in the third quarter in 13 years. both cars' sales have increased more than 60 percent over the past decade. the durango is also on pace to have record sales. slowing down is not something the hot-rod dodge brand is willing to consider, as it prepares to launch the charger srt hellcat widebody and the limited-production daytona 50th anniversary edition version.

a social media event to thank their horsepower-deranged fans is in the works. the details of the event will be announced next week, and we'll give you the full details when we have them.
