  • Dale Earnhardt Jr. was involved in a plane crash in Carter County, Tennessee, according to reports from KUTV and the New York Times.
  • The NASCAR racer, son of the late Dale Earnhardt, and TV analyst for NBC was traveling with his wife and daughter, as well as two pilots and the family dog, the station reported.
  • Kelley Earnhardt, the racer's sister, tweeted this afternoon that "everyone is safe and has been taken to the hospital for further evaluation."

Dale Earnhardt, Jr., was on board a private plane that crashed near Bristol, Tennessee, this afternoon. He, two pilots, his wife and daughter, and the family dog were all reportedly not seriously injured.

The Tennesseean website posted video of the plane on fire on the ground at Elizabethton Municipal Airport, where it reportedly rolled off the runway. Multiple news outlets said the plane was a Cessna Citation.

NBC Sports issued a statement on Thursday evening that "Dale, his wife Amy, daughter Isla, and the two pilots are safe" after the accident and have been discharged from the hospital. There is a NASCAR race scheduled in Bristol this weekend, but Earnhardt will take the weekend off from his work as a commentator "to be with his family" and will return to the broadcast booth in September at Darlington, NBC Sports said.
