Benz Shows Camouflaged Four-Door AMG GT
Camouflaged Mercedes-AMG sedan

— Mercedes-Benz released photos today of a camouflaged four-door sports car from its high-performance AMG division undergoing test trials in some hinterland of the globe — a rarity coming from an automaker, as such photos usually come by way of third-party spy photographers. This is all but certainly the production version of the Mercedes-AMG GT Concept shown at the 2017 New York International Auto Show. Mercedes says this is a "new, four-door Mercedes-AMG sports car" that heralds a "four-door coupe to the AMG GT family."

Camouflage notwithstanding, the images give some clues for the four-door AMG GT. The production car appears to retain the concept's sprawling grille and prominent vertical strakes, plus the slinking roofline behind the B-pillar. In back, the camouflaged tail portends a coupelike tail similar to last year's concept — itself cribbed from the two-door AMG GT coupe, Mercedes' Porsche 911 fighter.

Mercedes says the car is undergoing testing worldwide, but its German license plates suggest these images are at least from somewhere in Europe. Brian Cotter, a spokesman for the automaker, would not share the testing location, but he confirmed in an email to that the car will be "similar" to 2017's AMG-GT Concept.

The production model will debut at the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show in March, and Mercedes says more information will arrive in the "coming days and weeks." Press days for the Geneva show are March 6-7, so we should have more news by then.
