  • genesis has shared the first photos of the 2022 gv70 compact crossover.
  • this will be the brand's second suv model, following the gv80.
  • expect it to arrive in the u.s. sometime in 2021.

genesis has finally revealed the gv70, which could be its most important model yet. this compact crossover will compete with the likes of the audi q5, bmw x3, and mercedes glc, and it has the potential to be the nascent luxury brand's top seller at some point in the near future. we expect the gv70 to reach u.s. dealerships sometime in 2021.

our early impressions of the gv70's styling are positive, as it has athletic proportions and is perhaps the most elegant example yet of genesis' distinctive design language. the headlights and taillights are similar to those found on the g80 and gv80, and the gv70's g70 sedan sibling will also adopt this look for its 2022 refresh. the gv70 will use the same platform as the g70, meaning it will come standard with rear-wheel drive and offer all-wheel drive as an option.

on the inside, the gv70 looks plush and inviting, with an oval theme that dominates the dashboard. a huge widescreen infotainment display sticks out of the top of the dash and is controlled by a rotary knob on the center console that looks to have a knurled finish. the compact gv70 will be a five-seater with two rows; the larger mid-size gv80 offers an optional third row of seats.

these initial photos show a standard version of the gv70 in brown and silver along with a sport model in red with 21-inch wheels and exterior and interior trim. powertrain details aren't available yet, but we presume the base engine will be a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four with around 300 horsepower. the sport will likely offer a significantly more powerful twin-turbo 3.5-liter v-6 with around 375 horsepower.

more details about the gv70 are forthcoming, including final specs and pricing. like other genesis models, we presume the gv70 will attempt to undercut the german competition in terms of cost, meaning its starting price may even dip below $40,000. look for the gv70 to land in u.s. showrooms within the next six months.
