  • Genesis will launch a performance-oriented Sport model of its G80 luxury car with unique styling cues.
  • The G80 3.5T Sport will join the lineup as a 2022 model later this year, starting at $64,495.
  • A rear-wheel-steering system on the Sport will enhance the luxury sedan's performance, and summer tires will be optional.

UPDATE 9/9/21: Genesis has revealed more details of the G80's Sport appearance package, which will come standard on all 3.5T models. This includes the revised front end, new steering wheel, and a newly available color called Cavendish Red. The rear-wheel-steering system comes on the more expensive Sport Prestige, and summer tires are a $500 option. We have also updated this story to include other 2022 G80 details.

We've praised the new Genesis G80 for setting a new standard in panache for the luxury brand, and now the automaker has doubled down by introducing a Sport trim that comes out later this year. The Sport package's visual enhancements will now come standard on all V-6–powered G80 3.5T models, and Genesis has also shared that the G80 Sport Prestige will receive a rear-wheel-steering system and optional summer tires.

Several design tweaks will help the Sport look the part, including a reworked front grille and bumper, Sport-specific 20-inch wheels, a tweaked rear bumper, and a revised lower rear diffuser. The cabin will also receive new embellishments including a three-spoke steering wheel and aluminum and carbon-fiber interior trim pieces.

Genesis will debut two new interior color schemes on the G80 Sport. The first is a black monotone look with either gray or red contrast stitching, and the second is a black and Sevilla Red two-tone scheme. Buyers will also be able to choose from new quilted or chevron-style patterned stitching.

The G80 Sport doesn't get any extra power, as this model uses a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine with 375 horsepower. The non-Sport 2022 Genesis G80 2.5T models still come with the same turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four as before. It starts at $49,045 with rear-wheel drive, and all-wheel drive is a $3150 upcharge. It comes in base, Advanced, and Prestige trim levels.

The car is said to be ready to launch in North America in the third quarter of 2021, and the company says that online reservations will start later this month.
