underneath the updated 2022 genesis g70's shapely bodywork will be the same engines as before. genesis has revealed more details about the facelifted sedan ahead of its arrival next year, and the turbo 2.0-liter inline-four and twin-turbo 3.3-liter v-6 engines will carry over unchanged.
we previously reported that genesis was planning to slot in a more powerful turbo 2.5-liter inline-four as the g70's new base engine, but that isn't happening now. like before, the 2.0t option will produce between 252 hp and 255 hp depending on the model, and it will pair with an eight-speed automatic transmission and either rear- or all-wheel drive. the six-speed manual option will be dropped for the 2022 model year.
the twin-turbo 3.3-liter v-6 will produce 365 horsepower in standard form, with a newly optional sport exhaust slated to add 3 hp for a total of 368 hp. rear-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel-drive models will offer a new drift mode, which we assume is similar to the one found on the kia stinger gts.
genesis is also expanding the color palette, although we don't know if all the new color options—including brown, blue, and a few matte options—will make their way to the u.s. expect to hear more about the u.s.-spec 2022 g70 in the coming months as we approach its on-sale date sometime in 2021.
