2022 Chevy Bolt, Bolt EUV Electric Vehicles Teased with Silhouettes

2022 Chevy Bolt, Bolt EUV Electric Vehicles Teased with Silhouettes
  • chevrolet shared video of the upcoming refreshed 2022 bolt ev morphing into the 2022 bolt euv.
  • both vehicles are expected to go into production in summer 2021.
  • the vehicles will be based on gm’s ultium battery platform, and the bolt euv will have the option of super cruise.

update 8/26/20: we incorrectly stated that the upcoming bolt/bolt euv will ride on gm’s ultium platform. a chevrolet spokesperson tells us that it will instead be built on gm’s bev2 electric vehicle platform.

chevy’s bolt ev is getting a makeover and a larger sibling. until now, chevy has been talking about—but not showing off—the upcoming bolts. today the automaker gave us a glimpse of both vehicles with a video showing the regular 2022 bolt morphing into the taller 2022 bolt euv.

the bolt euv will be the first chevy to offer gm's super cruise hands-free driver-assistance system. it's currently only available within the cadillac lineup. this would put the electric crossover in direct competition with the tesla model y and tesla's autopilot suite.

the vehicles are slated to go into production in the summer of 2021. if that plan stays the course, expect the vehicles to be delivered before the end of 2021. the bolt had been expected to launch late this year and the bolt euv to be delivered in the summer of 2021, the bolt was delayed by the coronavirus pandemic.

both bolts will be built on the same platform and will be based on gm's bev2 electric vehicle platform instead of the ultium battery platform. the vehicles are part of gm's huge push for electrification; gm ceo mary barra has said that the company's goal is to sell a million evs a year.

we have seen spy shots of the bolt euv, but all they showed us was that it kind of looks like a taller bolt. while today’s image is shrouded in shadow, we do get a good look at the differences in head- and taillights and the sleeker design of the euv.

no word on pricing, range, or battery capacity. the current bolt starts at $37,495. but we expect that now that chevy has shared this teaser, more bolt-related news is going to be coming from gm in the near future.
