  • the porsche taycan benefits from new features and color options for 2021.
  • some of the features are available as over-the-air software updates that you subscribe to.
  • porsche says the 2021 taycan will arrive at u.s. dealers in early 2021.

as the porsche taycan enters its second model year, this electric sports sedan gains a few new features and color options. some of the features are traditional options available at the time of purchase, while others are available as over-the-air software updates that owners can either purchase or subscribe to later on.

the newly available traditional options include a head-up display and a smartlift function that can automatically adjust the ride height based on programmable locations. the over-the-air features are part of what porsche calls function on demand. it offers features such as lane-keep assist, a more advanced version of adaptive cruise control called innodrive, and a range manager tool as software upgrades. in order to download these options to the car, customers can either buy the options outright or pay a monthly subscription fee that comes with a three-month free trial. porsche hasn't released pricing yet.

the 2021 taycan is also available in a wider range of colors. seven new exterior colors—including mahogany metallic, frozenberry metallic, and chalk—and five new interior upholstery options—including blackberry and slate grey leather and basalt black and meranti brown olea club leather—are now offered.

porsche says that new calibration is able to better regulate the battery-charging capacity at fast-charging stations, reducing the charging power if you're stopping for a longer amount of time. the lower-capacity 79.2-kwh battery pack will finally be available on the base taycan 4s model; it had previously been announced for the 2020 model year but won't enter production until late this year, meaning the first taycans so equipped to reach the u.s. will be 2021 models. the larger, 93.4-kwh battery pack will continue to be standard on the turbo and turbo s models.

porsche says that it will begin accepting orders for the 2021 taycan late this year, and estimates that the new models will start arriving at u.s. dealerships in early 2021.
