the smallest mercedes crossover gets a bigger base price for 2021. the redesigned 2021 gla now starts at $37,280, a $2035 increase from its predecessor. that's for the front-wheel-drive gla250 model with a 221-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four. like before, 4matic all-wheel drive is a $2000 option. it is still the cheapest mercedes suv you can buy, just undercutting the slightly larger glb250 that starts at $39,045.
mercedes hasn't yet announced pricing for the gla250's many option packages, but we have no doubt that fully loaded versions will go well past the $50,000 mark. standard equipment for the gla250 includes led headlights and taillights, 18-inch wheels, and an mbux infotainment system with a 7.0-inch touchscreen display and smartphone-mirroring functions. more expensive amg versions of the gla are on their way, including an amg gla35 model with 302 horsepower and an amg gla45 with 382 horsepower.
the gla250's base price is slightly higher than its closest rivals, the bmw x1 and audi a3, both of which start just under $37,000. mercedes says the 2021 gla will go on sale in the u.s. soon.
