  • kia will reveal the u.s. version of the 2021 sorento suv on september 22.
  • we've already seen the global version of the new fourth-generation sorento, and the version coming here will look similar.
  • expect the 2021 kia sorento to go on sale in the u.s. late this year.

kia's new sorento will finally be making its way to america, as the company says it will release u.s. details on september 22. we have already seen the global version of the 2021 sorento and we don't expect too many changes for the version that will come here, but we will find out next week which powertrains will make their way to our market.

kia did release a few teaser images of the u.s.-market car, one of which reveals that there will be an x-line trim level. this should be an off-road-oriented model with a slightly more rugged appearance, although we don't expect too many hard-core 4x4 components as the sorento remains a unibody crossover with more of a focus on ferrying passengers and cargo than rock-crawling. the x-line model pictured in the teaser is also finished in an attractive green paint color.

the global sorento offers a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four and a hybrid system that uses a turbocharged 1.6-liter gas engine. we expect both of these powertrains to come to the u.s., and kia will likely offer a naturally aspirated base engine as well. a plug-in-hybrid sorento is also slated to arrive at some point.

look for more details to come next week about the 2021 sorento's engines, trim levels, and features for the u.s. market. the new model is likely to go on sale here before the end fo 2020.
