after sales of the titan fell 38 percent in 2019, we can understand why nissan is simplifying the lineup for the truck's 2020 update. but we're a bit perplexed as to why prices for the updated model are up by $860 to $5250, depending on trim level. both titan and titan xd models continue to include s, sv, sl, pro-4x, and platinum reserve trim levels, while there are fewer cab configurations and powertrain options than before. the single-cab model is gone, as is the cummins turbodiesel 5.0-liter v-8 that was optional on the titan xd.

comparing equivalent 2020 titan half-ton models to their 2019 counterparts, prices are up by as little as $860 for the platinum reserve crew cab but as much as $5250 for the sl crew-cab model. due to the discontinuation of the single cab model, the cheapest 2020 titan—an s extended-cab model—now costs $37,785, a $5500 increase from a 2019 single-cab model.

xd prices are up by between $1890 and $4690, and this version of the truck—intended to fit between traditional half-ton and heavy-duty pickups—can now only be had in crew-cab form and with four-wheel drive. it was previously available with rear-wheel drive and in single-cab and extended-cab configurations.

all titans now come only with a naturally aspirated 5.6-liter v-8 gasoline engine and a nine-speed automatic transmission. it makes 400 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque. the turbodiesel 5.0-liter v-8 from cummins is no longer on the option sheet—and we won't miss it, considering the poor experience we had with our diesel-powered long-term titan xd.
