just when all all the excitement surrounding the long-awaited mid-engined c8 corvette seemed to have subsided, chevy refueled the fervor for hordes of enthusiasts with a simple tweet: the 2020 #corvette convertible will make its debut on 10.02.19.
the bow-tie brand made the official announcement on its twitter account earlier today, posting the above gif that shows a cartoon c8 corvette coupe transforming into a convertible model. watch closely and you'll see that the transformation makes the convertible appear slightly longer than the coupe and swaps the sloping rear window for rear-mounted ribs.
the simple illustration seems to confirm some of the details we gleaned from the convertible c8 we spotted at the end of its official reveal as well as the prototype version we spied at this year's concours d'elegance of america.
all signs point to the convertible mid-engined corvette having a power-folding hardtop roof and supercar-worthy buttresses that sandwich a retractable rear window. likewise, we've seen the flat vented decklid that corresponds with the ribs on the aforementioned illustration.
we expect the convertible to tack on about $5000 and go on to be one of the best-selling versions of the 2020 corvette.
