cadillac has announced a price for its medium-spicy ct5-v sports sedan. this higher-performance version of the ct5 will start at $48,690 when it goes on sale in early 2020. rear-wheel drive, a twin-turbo 3.0-liter v-6 engine, and a 10-speed automatic transmission are standard, and all-wheel drive is a $2600 option.

the ct5-v's engine also makes a bit more power than cadillac initially said, with the official numbers now coming in at 360 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque, 5 hp and 5 lb-ft more than was originally promised. it's important to remember that this ct5-v is not the full-blown v you might be expecting; that top-dog performance variant is still in the works and should arrive sometime next year with significantly more power and a more aggressively tuned chassis.

the twin-turbo v-6 will also be available in non-v ct5 models, as the premium luxury trim offers a lower-output version of this engine as an option. it starts at $45,190 and makes do with only 335 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. pricing for four-cylinder ct5 2.0t models was announced earlier this year and starts at $37,890.

we haven't driven the ct5-v yet, but on paper it stacks up well against the german competition, all of which are several thousand dollars more expensive. the 382-hp bmw m340i starts at $54,995, the 349-hp audi s4 starts at $51,195, and the 385-hp mercedes-amg c43 starts at $56,945.
