the 2019 hyundai kona electric received its official range and mpg-equivalent figures from the epa, and it's good news for the korean automaker. the small suv rated 120 mpg-e for its combined city/highway mileage — but more importantly, 258 miles of all-electric range.

that puts the new kona electric in a great position, as it outdistances competition including the 2019 chevrolet bolt ev by 20 miles and 2018 nissan leaf by 107 miles. it also more than doubles hyundai's own 2019 ioniq electric by 134 miles of range. the kona electric also fits in between versions of the tesla model 3, which has up to 220 miles of range on standard versions but offers a long-range version with 310 miles of range.

the specs on the kona electric are also impressive. the electric motor produces 201 horsepower and 291 pounds-feet of torque, which should make for a zippy driving experience, and it comes with plenty of standard safety features, as well.

the kona electric will be built in ulsan, south korea, and will be available in the fall of 2018 in california before expanding to other states in the western and northeastern regions.
