the gmc sierra 1500 underwent a complete redesign for 2019, just like its corporate sibling, the 2019 chevrolet silverado 1500. we've already driven various versions of the new silverado, so now it's time to get behind the wheel of the sierra and see not only what improved — or got worse — but what sets it apart from the silverado.
reviewer aaron bragman took the reins of the 2019 sierra 1500 in newfoundland, canada. that's a far different locale than wyoming, where gm revealed the silverado. according to bragman, it's because the automaker wanted to remind journalists that the sierra is a different truck.

we'll get to that, but it's worth noting that bragman didn't drive every possible variation of the sierra 1500. he only drove slt and denali versions of the new truck with two of the sierra 1500's six powertrain combinations.
taking in the sights of newfoundland on slow- and high-speed paved roads, bragman got a chance to feel how the sierra's updates improved its on-road handling and day-to-day livability, including some hauling with perhaps 500 pounds in the bed.
