Vehicles Affected: Approximately 25,800 model-year 2017-18 Jeep Compass SUVs

The Problem: The brightness of the backlighting for the instrument panel cluster can't be adjusted, which can affect the driver's ability to see at night, increasing the risk of a crash.

The Fix: Dealers will update the instrument panel cluster software, as necessary, for free.

What Owners Should Do: Jeep manufacturer Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will begin notifying owners Jan. 10, 2018. Owners can call the automaker at 800-853-1403, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
