141,000 Mitsubishi Sedans, Hatchbacks and SUVs: Recall Alert

141,000 Mitsubishi Sedans, Hatchbacks and SUVs: Recall Alert
2012 Mitsubishi Lancer

Vehicles affected: Approximately 141,000 model-year 2009-12 Mitsubishi Lancer sedans, model-year 2010-12 Lancer Sportback hatchbacks, model-year 2008-12 Outlander SUVs and model-year 2011-12 Outlander Sport SUVs

The Problem: The drive belt automatic tensioner may crack and detach, which will cause the battery to discharge and the Used Engine to stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

The Fix: Dealers will inspect and replace the belt tensioner, as necessary, for free.

What Owners Should Do: Mitsubishi will begin notifying owners March 27. Owners can call the automaker at 888-648-7820, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
