  • mercedes-amg is finalizing testing of its plug-in-hybrid one hypercar, and the company says its formula 1–derived powertrain is now complete.
  • the one (or project one) is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter v-6 paired with four electric motors and produces more than 1000 horsepower.
  • all 275 cars are sold, priced at about $2.7 million each.

mercedes-amg has been testing its project one, or now officially called the one, plug-in-hybrid hypercar for some time now, and it's finally testing the car's finalized powertrain and active aerodynamics at its proving ground in germany. additionally, amg has released video showing its testing of several pre-production cars, and now we can hear the formula 1–derived powertrain sing.

the mid-engined project one is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter v-6 that's based on mercedes's formula 1 cars and paired with four electric motors—two at the front axle (giving it all-wheel drive), one coupled to the engine, and another to the turbocharger. mercedes claims a total output exceeding 1000 horsepower, a zero-to-124-mph time under six seconds, and a top speed exceeding 217 mph.

amg is also testing the car's active aerodynamics, which include active louvers on top of the front wheel arches and an extendible rear wing. additional aero on the one, which you can't miss, is the large shark fin and the f1-style air intake above the roof, which feeds air to the engine, as well as a big rear diffuser. amg says that the next step is to test the car at the revered nürburgring nordschleife, where it could post a lightning-fast time.

we'll hear more about the mercedes-amg one when it gets closer to production. mercedes-amg hasn't given official details on that yet, but a spokesman did tell car and driver that deliveries are scheduled for early next year. next stop: the green hell.
