2017-2018 Audi A3: Recall Alert
Vehicles Affected: Approximately 8,400 model-year 2017-18 Audi A3 cabriolets and sedans
The Problem: The Used Engine control unit software may misinterpret the flywheel rotation on Used Engine startup as a "knocking" condition, and the adjusted air/fuel mixture may result in an Used Engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
The Fix: Dealers will reprogram the ECU software for free.
What Owners Should Do: Audi parent Volkswagen Group will begin to notify owners Sept. 29. Owners can call the automaker at 800-253-2834, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
