Infiniti Muses on Detroit-bound Q Inspiration Concept
Infiniti Q Inspiration Concept

— Infiniti released the first image of its latest concept car, the Q Inspiration Concept. The brand, a luxury division of Nissan, promises a "next stage of evolution" on "traditional sedan architecture" with the Q. If this rear-quarter image is any indication, that evolution makes the sedan more hatchback-like. The roofline blends into the C-pillars, which descend into a short trunk. Combine that with the Q's width-spanning taillights, and we see a bit of the Porsche Panamera.

Infiniti promises an "unusually long and balanced cabin" with a "shorter hood and elongated body." At minimum, that should separate the Q from the long hoods in vogue on everything from workaday sedans to luxury flagships (plus concept cars).

Does the Q Inspiration portend a next generation of the M-turned-Q70? We'll have to wait and see. Previous Infiniti concepts that bore the Inspiration name became production cars (note the Q80 Inspiration that heralded the Q60 coupe, or the QX Sport Inspiration that previewed the QX50).

The full concept debuts Jan. 15 at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. We'll be covering the debut of the Q Inspiration, along with all the other auto-show action, straight from the exhibit floor, so check back.
