Following the release of a shadowy teaser image, Hyundai has revealed a pair of renderings of the new look for its 2019 Santa Fe three-row SUV. The drawings — exaggerated for dramatic effect — show a sleeker, more sculpted look for the SUV.

The new Santa Fe gets a big version of Hyundai's current "cascading grille" design, surrounded by an aggressive and chiseled front end with large vent openings, slit-eyed headlights and separated daytime running lights. The taillights are similarly slim, and a sharply creased character line down the side connects them with the headlights. The rear also is more sharply sculpted and gets a massive bumper design with dual exhausts.

Hyundai released no further details, but the earlier photo (below) highlighted that a new SmartSense safety package for the family SUV will include a Rear Occupant Alert monitor and rear cross-traffic collision warning with automatic braking.

The Santa Fe is Hyundai's biggest and best-selling SUV — and currently its oldest. The automaker is working to update and expand its SUV offerings to beef up a currently car-heavy lineup. Going on sale this spring will be an all-new SUV at the other end of the size spectrum, the funky subcompact Kona.

The new Santa Fe will make its world debut in February before being displayed in March at the Geneva International Motor Show; we expect to see a U.S. version at the 2018 New York International Auto Show later that month. We'll have the news from all three events, so check back for more.
