Honda Drops Accord Coupe for 2018

Honda Drops Accord Coupe for 2018

Front-wheel-drive mid-size coupes have been a dying breed for some time, but the final nail was hammered into the coffin last week with Honda dropping the coupe body style of its Accord with the car's redesign for 2018.

The redesigned Accord has a more coupelike profile than ever with its new fastback roofline, but it still has four traditional doors and won't be mistaken for anything other than a sedan.

The previous-generation Accord was one of the better-driving mid-size family sedans, but the coupe catered especially to the enthusiast driver; only in the coupe could you get the 278-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 Used Engine with a six-speed manual transmission. With the Accord's redesign for 2018 the V-6 has been dropped altogether in favor of a high-output turbocharged four-cylinder rated at 252 hp.

The coupe represented just a fraction of Accord sales, and in a market where car sales are contracting and SUV sales are surging, it's easy to see why the coupe didn't make the cut. If you want to get a new Accord coupe before it's gone for good, there are currently more than 5,400 listed for sale on .
