Ford Teases Return of Shelby GT500 in New Video
2019 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500

The debut of the 475-horsepower 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt was apparently not enough Mustang news for the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, as Ford also announced the return of the high-output Shelby GT500 in a short teaser video. The new high-performance Mustang is scheduled to arrive in 2019.

The new Shelby GT500's output will be higher than ever, with its supercharged V-8 Used Engine generating more than 700 horsepower, according to Ford. That makes it the most powerful street-legal Mustang ever built. Will the Shelby GT500's Used Engine output top the 707-hp rating of the supercharged V-8 in the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat? That seems like a given.

The Shelby GT500 was last offered for the 2014 model year before the current-generation Mustang hit the market. Its supercharged V-8 made 662 hp and sent power to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. To this day, it remains one of the most entertaining cars I've driven — unruly in the best possible way. Here's hoping the new Shelby GT500 is just as fun.
