Ford has spent the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit on a bit of a nostalgia trip — first with the rediscovered 1968 Mustang GT from "Bullitt" and its 2019 Mustang Bullitt tribute, and now with the return of the Ranger pickup truck.

The "new" Ranger looks very similar to the global Ranger that's been on sale in most of the rest of the world since the last-generation Ranger left our shores in 2011.

With Ford trailing GM slightly in overall truck sales in the U.S., it makes sense to add the missing mid-size truck to its lineup. For those of us in automotive journalism and for fans of the Ranger, it's like welcoming back an old friend from a long trip abroad.

Everything about the new Ranger appears to be competitive with the rest of the trucks in its class, but we'll have to wait and see if that holds up once we actually drive it. Be sure to check out all the details about the 2019 Ford Ranger over at PickupTrucks.com.
