one of the undoubted highlights of the midwest automotive media association's spring rally in may was having the opportunity to ride shotgun for quick laps around the road america racetrack in a ford gt. they were awful hot, those laps, and we even said that the gt "blazed" around the track. well, for the handful of owners out there, your ford gt is now being recalled for a very different, literal kind of blaze.
ford has issued a recall for around 200 gts thanks to hydraulic fluid that could leak from valves underneath the rear wing onto the exhaust. the automaker knows of one fire already that occurred in germany, but to prevent any further flames, the cars should be brought in for a software update. read on for more details.
vehicles affected: approximately 200 model-year 2017-18 ford gt sports cars
the problem: hydraulic fluid may leak from valves located underneath the rear wing block onto the exhaust, causing a fire.
ford is aware of one fire but said it is not aware of any accidents or injuries as a result of this condition.
the fix: dealers will perform a software update to the fully integrated vehicle controller, which eliminates the possibility of excessive pressure in the valve block assembly. some vehicles without a hydraulic check valve and filter will be fitted with the hardware, as well as hydraulic pump o-rings, if needed. repairs will be done for free.
