after a grueling winter full of bomb cyclones and polar vortexes, bmw is already skipping spring and summer, and looking ahead to november — but for good reason. the automaker today announced plans for the debut of the 2 series gran coupe.
despite its name, the new gran coupe will feature four doors — similar to other gran coupes in bmw's stable, like the 6 series. it will build off of the 2 series coupe, convertible and coupe-only performance-oriented m2 lineup. details are slim, but judging from the teaser image released, it will wear a sloping, coupelike fastback roofline.
"the bmw 2 series gran coupe sets new accents in individuality, aesthetics and emotion in the premium compact segment," bmw said in a statement. "it combines an emotive design with sportiness and the latest innovations in operation and connectivity technology. therefore, the bmw 2 series gran coupe offers the ideal prerequisites to attract new target groups to hallmark bmw driving pleasure."
the bmw 2 series gran coupe will make its world debut at the 2019 los angeles auto show in november. bmw says the model will launch worldwide beginning in spring 2020.
