2020 Toyota Sequoia News, Release Date and Pricing

Toyota's biggest SUV just got a bit more off-road capable. Announced today at the Chicago Auto Show, the 2020 Toyota Sequoia will now join the lineup of Toyota vehicles available in a TRD Pro trim. The 2020 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro is a pumped-up version of the standard three-row body-on-frame SUV, gaining a variety of functional and aesthetic changes to set it apart from the rest of the Sequoia lineup.

What's Different About It?
For hardware, the 2020 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro, which comes standard with all-wheel drive, gets specially tuned Fox shock absorbers and updated springs. The shock absorbers are larger than those on the standard Sequoia and should improve on-road comfort and off-road capability at the same time. The look of the Sequoia TRD Pro will be set off by unique 18-inch BBS alloy wheels, a distinct front grille, a front underbody skid plate, a roof rack and running boards. It also gets a few exclusive exterior paint color choices. An upgraded TRD Pro exhaust is available as an optional extra.

Inside, the 2020 Toyota Sequoia benefits from an upgraded infotainment system that Toyota will be rolling out across the entire TRD Pro lineup (Sequoia, Tundra, Tacoma and 4Runner). Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa capability are now included with the TRD Pro trims, with the Sequoia sporting a 7-inch screen and the Tundra, Tacoma and 4Runner all getting 8-inch screens. Toyota also gives the Sequoia TRD Pro leather-trimmed seats, TRD Pro-branded floor mats, and red contrast stitching throughout the cabin.

Can It Still Haul Stuff?
This update isn't a Toyota Sequoia redesign, however. The Sequoia still gets its power from a 5.7-liter V8 that produces 381 horsepower. That means towing capacity for the 2020 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro stays the same at 7,100 pounds. That isn't a class-leading number for three-row SUVs, but it's acceptable.

When it comes to hauling people, the 2020 Toyota Sequoia has you covered. The TRD Pro trim level presents seven seats in a spacious interior and lots of cargo space in the rear. Behind the rear seats, the Sequoia offers 18.9 cubic feet of cargo space. But when you fold the seats flat, there's a whopping 120 cubes of storage. That's on par with some of the biggest vehicles on the road such as the Chevy Suburban and the Ford Expedition.

What Standard Equipment Does It Have?
Aside from all the TRD Pro bits that we mentioned earlier, the Sequoia does come with a decent amount of standard equipment. Currently the Sequoia comes in four trim levels for the Sequoia: SR5, TRD Sport, Limited and Ultimate. It's likely that the 2020 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro will slot in the lineup above the TRD Sport and below the Limited.

Standard Sequoia equipment includes foglights, a rearview camera, heated mirrors, roof rails, a windshield wiper de-icer, a power rear window, power-adjustable front seats (eight-way driver and four-way passenger), a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a 120-volt power outlet in the rear cargo area. All Sequoias get Toyota's Safety Sense P system, which includes forward collision warning with automatic braking, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Finally, while the standard stereo is an eight-speaker sound system, the TRD Pro trim will get the upgraded 15-speaker JBL sound system and an integrated navigation system.

Pricing and Release Date
Since it's a 2020 model, the Sequoia TRD Pro will likely go on sale late in 2019. Pricing hasn't been announced yet, but current prices for the Sequoia are a good starting point. The four-wheel-drive TRD Sport begins at $55,935 (including destination) while a four-wheel-drive Sequoia Limited has a starting MSRP of $61,715. We expect the TRD Pro to fit in between those trims in terms of price. For more details on pricing and a release date for the 2020 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro, be sure check back here on Edmunds.
