as the 2019 chicago auto show draws near, the windy city will still be thawing out from a record-low winter wind chill of lower than -50 degrees, with the forecast promising auto-show visitors comparatively tropical temps in the mid-20s. and although the old adage says the weather "keeps the riffraff out," chicago's lineup should be more than enough of a hot ticket to keep car shoppers and auto enthusiasts in. dudes, this year's roster is rollin' deeper than a giordano's pizza.
unlike the other marquee motor shows in los angeles, detroit and new york, all generally focused on sexy national and global new-model debuts, chicago earns its boast as "the nation's largest auto show" via its million-square-foot expanse housing nearly a thousand vehicles, as well as its commitment to being a consumer-focused event (as opposed to a media-fawning affair driven by headlines). we at may very well be partial since we're headquartered in downtown chicago, but it's an objective fact that show goers will be able to see not only all the brand-new models that bow in the city of big shoulders, but also everything else that has accumulated over the course the entire 2018-19 auto-show season thus far, all under one roof — one ginormous roof.
on the first-look front, 2019 chicago auto show visitors will see all-new models including the 2020 toyota tacoma mid-size pickup truck; the 2020 subaru legacy sedan; the 2020 toyota land cruiser heritage edition suv; the commemorative 30th-anniversary edition of the iconic mazda mx-5 miata roadster; the return of the sublime green exterior color for the 2019 dodge challenger and charger muscle cars; the 2019 lexus lc 500 inspiration edition concept-to-reality luxury sports coupe; and the 2019 lexus nx f sport black line luxury suv.
for midwesterners (and anyone else in town the week of cas) who couldn't make it to the 2018 los angeles auto show in november or the 2019 north american international auto show in detroit in january, the chicago auto show is also your opportunity to make up for lost time, as just about every major release at each of those shows will be toddlin' into town next week. rehashed highlights include the 2020 cadillac xt6, 2019 chevrolet blazer, 2020 ford explorer, 2019 honda passport, 2020 hyundai palisade, 2020 kia telluride, 2020 lincoln aviator and 2019 nissan murano suvs; the 2019 ford ranger, 2020 jeep gladiator, and 2019 ram 2500 and 3500 pickups; and the 2020 ford mustang shelby gt500, 2020 lexus rc f track edition, 2020 porsche 911, 2019 subaru sti s209 and resurrected-for-2020 toyota supra performance cars.
in the dwindling categories of family sedans and garden-variety cars, the chicago slate includes the 2020 kia soul, 2019 lincoln continental, 2019 mazda3, 2019 nissan maxima, 2020 toyota corolla and 2020 volkswagen passat. eco-friendly entries are the 2019 audi e-tron, the long-range 2019 nissan leaf plus series and the all-wheel-drive 2019 toyota prius. other notables to look for include our best of 2019 nominee genesis g70 luxury sedan; the 2019 lamborghini urus suv; the 2019 volkswagen arteon sedan, which debuted a year ago in chicago only to return still mia at dealerships; and the 2019 volkswagen beetle final edition, your last chance to see the iconic "bug" under the lights before vw squashes it for the 2020 model year.
the 2019 chicago auto show opens to the public feb. 9 and runs through feb. 18 at downtown chicago's mccormick place, 2301 s. lake shore drive. exhibit hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day except the last day of the show, when doors will close at 8 p.m. admission is $13 for adults, $7 for senior citizens age 62 or older and children age 7-12, and free for kids age 6 or younger accompanied by a paying adult family member. on women's day (feb. 12), women get in for $7, and feb. 13-15, visitors who bring three cans of food for the chicago auto show food drive get in for $7. for more info, visit the cas website.
