Acura's five-seat 2019 RDX Prototype makes its first official appearance at this year's 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It's been revised from the ground up, inside and out.

Acura has given the RDX Prototype a new Acura-exclusive platform with a wider track and longer wheelbase. Additionally, the styling is much more aggressive than the outgoing generation and features the larger pentagonal grille that's been making its way across Acura's model lineup.
The interior features more upscale materials like Nappa leather and open-pore wood, as well as a touchpad-controlled multimedia system; we'll reserve judgment until we try it, but we're not usually fans of systems like this. Acura's differs from competitors by being mapped to the screen and touch-based rather than swipe- or drag-based. Mercifully, physical controls for volume and track selection remain.
The outgoing RDX never did a very good job of standing out in a crowded segment filled with luxury automakers; the 2019 RDX Prototype might not, either, but these updates will give it a much better chance.
