— Refreshed for the 2018 model year, the Subaru Legacy also gets a refreshed price: $23,055 with destination, or $240 more than the 2017 Legacy. For that, the most tangible upgrade is standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on a 6.5-inch touchscreen. Neither smartphone integration was available on the 2017 Legacy, whose base screen was also a bit smaller (6.2 inches). Subaru issued some visual updates for 2018, too, plus a smorgasbord of minor Used Engine ering changes.
The base price edges the Legacy past 2018 rivals like the Chevrolet Malibu ($22,555), Hyundai Sonata ($22,935) and Ford Fusion ($22,995), but those are all front-wheel drive. The redesigned 2018 Toyota Camry — also front-drive — starts north of the whole group ($24,380) but packs a lot of standard crash-avoidance technology that's generally optional in the class. You'll have to wait until July for more details on the redesigned 2018 Honda Accord.
Subaru says the updated Legacy hits dealers this summer alongside its Outback wagon sibling, also refreshed. As before, a 2.5-liter four-cylinder (175 horsepower), continuously variable automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are standard on the Legacy's base trim, called the 2.5i.
Major additions to other trims:
- The 2.5i Premium ($25,155) adds 17-inch alloy wheels, a larger touchscreen (8 inches), heated front seats and mirrors, dual-zone automatic climate control and a power driver's seat.
- The 2.5i Sport ($27,205) adds some unique interior trim and exterior ground effects, a sportier grille, LED foglights, 18-inch wheels, mirror-integrated turn signals and a trunk spoiler.
- The 2.5i Limited ($29,955) gets leather seats, a power moonroof, keyless access with push-button start, heated rear seats, driver's-seat memory, a four-way power front-passenger seat and a blind spot warning system.
- The 3.6R Limited ($32,805) adds a 256-hp six-cylinder and adaptive LED headlights.
Subaru's Used Engine ering/eyesight.html">EyeSight driver-assist package ($1,545 to $2,095) is available on all but the 2.5i. It adds adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning with steering assist, and forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, plus one or more other features depending on the trim level — hence the price spread. Those extras can include a navigation system, adaptive headlights, automatic high beams, automatic reverse braking and a blind spot warning system.
Loaded with factory options, the 2018 Legacy tops out around $34,400. That's in the thick of price ceilings for many family sedans, though some players push the envelope: The 2018 Camry can top $38,000, while a loaded 2017 Ford Fusion can crest 40 large.
