Vehicles Affected: Approximately 49,000 model-year 2016 Toyota Prius hybrids and Lexus RX SUVs, and model-year 2015-16 Lexus NX SUVs
The Problem: An open circuit in the airbag systems could be created over time, which may cause the airbag warning light to illuminate and the side and curtain shield airbags and/or front airbags to not deploy, increasing the risk of an injury in a crash.
The Fix: Dealers will inspect the serial number of the sensors and replace them with new ones, if necessary, for free.
What Owners Should Do: Toyota, which also manufactures Lexus, will begin notifying owners in late March. Owners can call the automaker at 800-331-4331, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
