2016 Toyota Avalon Hybrid, Camry Hybrid: Recall Alert

2016 Toyota Avalon Hybrid, Camry Hybrid: Recall Alert

Approximately 670 model-year 2016 Toyota Avalon Hybrid and Camry Hybrid sedans, as many as 42 of which are potentially equipped with a misassembled front drive shaft

The Problem: If the front drive shaft assembly was misassembled, it could cause vehicle vibration and certain components in the drive shaft assembly to separate, resulting in a loss of propulsion while driving and the transmission not holding the vehicle when shifted into the Park position, increasing the risk of a crash.  Additionally, if the driver exits the vehicle without applying the parking brake, the vehicle could roll away with the transmission in Park, also increasing the risk of a crash.

The Fix: Dealers will check the serial numbers of both front drive shafts and replace them with new ones, if necessary, for free.

What Owners Should Do: Toyota will begin notifying owners by mail in early August. Owners can call the automaker at 800-331-4331 or visit www.toyota.com/recall for more info.
