2016-2017 Mitubishi i-MiEV: Recall Alert

2016-2017 Mitubishi i-MiEV: Recall Alert
2017 Mitsubishi i-MiEV

Vehicles Affected: Approximately 144 model-year 2016-17 Mitsubishi i-MiEV electric hatchbacks

The Problem: The front passenger airbag inflator may rupture in a crash necessitating airbag deployment, spewing metal fragments into the cabin and striking vehicle occupants, potentially resulting in serious injury or death.

The affected vehicles are part of the massive ongoing recall of airbag inflators manufactured by Japan's Takata Corp., and expand upon Mitsubishi's similar recall of model-year 2012 and 2014 i-MiEVs in January.

The Fix: Dealers will replace the passenger-side front airbag inflator for free.

What Owners Should Do: Mitsubishi began notifying owners on Dec. 15. Owners can call the automaker at 888-648-7820, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
